Guitars In Sunlight

In previous Tip 26, I mentioned the dangers of exposing your guitar to direct sunlight as the heat can cause problems but another problem is, spruce tops tend to yellow prematurely when exposed to sunlight. This may not necessarily be a problem to you but if the guitar strap or something is left laying over it, the finish could get strap marks like your shoulders do when you get a sun tan.

Great site!  I wanted to add a comment about tip #114.  I was looking at a guitar that was for sale.  It had what looked like a repaired headstock.  There was a dark piece of wood in between the nut and the E string tuning pegs.  On closer inspection it turned out to be a "tan line" from a strap.  The guy must have had the guitar in a stand with the strap on where it got sunlight.  Looked pretty weird!
